Charity

As a school we are involved in a number of charity events throughout the year. Doing something to help others is beneficial for our own personal and social development and our sense of well-being.

Our Charities

In September we always host a Macmillan Coffee Morning. A group of pupils help make the cakes and serve these and drinks to other pupils, staff and visitors. The cakes are often unusual and interesting and are a good time for pupils to show off their baking skills.

In November we usually have an event to raise money for Children in Need.

In the spring we alternate between Comic Relief and Sport Relief with an event with either a comedy or sporting focus.

In the summer we partner up with the Race for Life and “If U Care, Share” for our cross-site charity races.

Toilet Twinning

In Autumn 2018 we decided that it would be a great idea to back a charity where we had a clear idea of exactly how our fundraising was being spent. After some research and careful consideration we chose Toilet Twinning. By donating £60 to twin a toilet, we can help fund a project in a less fortunate region somewhere in the world that will enable families or communities to build a basic toilet, have access to clean water and learn about hygiene – a vital combination that saves lives. This project in school was  coordinated by a chosen class group as part of their Culture programme.

Pupils really embraced this charity as they could see a real value and result of their fundraising efforts. In total we have raised enough to sponsor 14 toilets in Asia and Africa so far.

Team Solan

In 2023 we began working closely with Team Solan, a County Durham-based cancer trust. We have since partnered with their Spenymoor superstore in order to deliver upcycled goods that will then be sold on to raise money for the many people struggling with a cancer diagnosis.

Our pupils have already upcycled dozens of items for Team Solan which have been used to raise money for the charity and provide pupils with hands-on experience in a wide degree of practical skills.
